Player welfare is going to be in danger if strategies to alter European club competitions proceed, states the human body representing leagues across the continent.
Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli Would like to change the structure of the Champions League and spoke about the issue in a leaders conference on Tuesday.
However, Lars-Christer Olsson, president of European Leagues, mentioned fixture and is contrary to the movement.
It is becoming more evident we have to care for the gamers, Olsson said.
If they are playing 70 or 80 matches per year, theres a high probability of them getting hurt
Olssons organisation – the Association of European Professional Football Leagues, also referred to as European Leagues – says it is the voice of professional soccer leagues across Europe on all topics of shared interest.
He wants the Champions League structure to change.
Its been indicated the rivalry could be changed from its – eight groups of four to six groups of six. Such a transfer would increase the amount of group-stage matches for each team.
Olsson considers the one means of handling additional games would be for clubs to expand their squads into 40 players but believes this would dilute the contest as a whole as well as in any circumstance, would reap the wealthier clubs, something hes more compared to.
Agnelli has been canvassing opinion from the clubs for a shift in the present European model of Europe.
The Italian is to reach any consensus and utilized his speech, in the Leaders Sport Business Summit in Twickenham, to tell the leagues they had to quit sayingno, no to some revision of the current system.
Agnelli argues that change must occur if soccer is to remain interesting to a younger generation he believes will be drawn away by pc games like League and Fortnite of Legends.
But Olsson said:Its a contradiction to say the clubs have been fighting with the leagues. Each of the clubs are in leagues and among the leagues there is not any issue.
Olsson states that the leagues are against the present idea of integrating promotion and relegation into European competitions, presuming it would turn them intoa closed shop.
It is completely non-negotiable, he explained.
If you win one degree, it makes feel you should get the chance to play with at the next level and if you win the Champions League, you need to be in a position to guard it, but these 3 teams are the only ones that must really be given the opportunity to play in European club football the next season .
The rest must be down to current success on the pitch at a national league. Clubs should not have an advantage.
Neither do I feel that the big leagues – England, Spain, Italy and Germany – ought to have four groups that go directly into the group stages as it limits the chances for teams from other countries.
It should be three and one to the qualifying round. In the event the fourth group is great enough, theyll undergo but somebody else should have a chance of doing it also.
Agnelli has set a deadline of fall 2022 to come up with a platform, which may then be applied as the foundation for discussions over the tv deals scheduled to run out of 2024.
He also cited the growth of the womens game for a reason why a solution has to be found which will generate earnings for ranking European nightclubs in particular.
The development of the womens match has brought a breath of fresh air to the business, he said.
Clubs are now realising the womens game is important and can be another source of possible customers and fans.
But its hard to ask a club by a moderate or small-sized team to invest 2m – that is what you need from the start when you consider logistics, transport, hotels and salaries – from an overall funding of #20m. Its the equivalent of a third division mens team.
A quagmire of mediocrity or eventhe only catastrophe is an injury crisis – just how bad can it be at Manchester United and can be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer safe from the sofa?
