Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praised”role model” James Milner later he assisted a youthful Liverpool side progress to the fourth round of this Carabao Cup.
Milner scored the opening goal as they won 2-0 away to Mk Dons on Wednesday night to set up an attractive tie at home to Arsenal.
Harvey Elliott became the youngest player to begin a competitive game for the Reds at 16 decades and 174 days old and double hit the crossbar, but it was evergreen Milner that Klopp picked out as their key performer.
“This man is on fire,” Klopp replied when asked about the 33-year-old’s participation.
“This is the way that it is, it is good. It really helps a lot and he is a role model for young players. If we can play he would be like this every day – that is the way it is.
“The team had a shortage of knowledge and too little rhythm and the participant with the most experience and rhythm was the best player .
“We’re here to win the game, no other reason, so I am rather happy we went , that is cool.”
Curtis Jones (18) was man of the game along with Ki-Jana Hoever (17) scored Liverpool’s second goal but it was Elliott who made the plaudits from his manager.
“Sixteen years old nonetheless and this type of footballer, it’s very great for people,” additional Klopp.
“[He’s ] a brilliant boy, takes the situation very well, desires to learn and he will always be a particular player in minutes but his general game that is really, really great.
“He was somewhat unlucky otherwise he would have scored, he’s a fantastic player but all of them are good.
“We haven’t any poor young players and that is why it is important we could provide these matches and try to continue like this.”
Liverpool return before confronting Red Bull Salzburg at Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday.
