Despite being projected to become one of the worst teams in the NFL in 2019, the Washington Redskins have any major decisions to make when it concerns the quarterback position. With Week two of the NFL preseason upon usoddsmakers have published props where man will make the starting quarterback position when the normal season arrives.
BetOnline is working Case Keenum as the +100 favorite to be the starting quarterback in Week 1, with Colt McCoy (+200) and Dwayne Haskins (+250) as the underdogs. The’Skins regular-season OVER/UNDER win total has been set at 6.5 in the store.
Washington head coach Jay Gruden has a big choice on his palms. Gruden, who is Recorded As The Fave are the first coach fired this season, has not made any statements as to which person will find the starting job, however viewing Keenum because the likeliest player to do so is logical.
According to The Washington Post, Keenum is”likely the Redskins’ starting quarterback for the time being.” Keenum was traded to the Redskins from Denver in the offseason following an abysmal campaign together with the Broncos where he threw for 18 touchdowns and 3,890 yards along with 15 interceptions. Keenum won’t be considered the most attractive option but he looks like the one.
McCoy was given the reins of the beginning job last year following Alex Smith suffered a barbarous season-ending leg accident, however the Texas product endured a season-ending injury of his own only a couple weeks after Smith’s.
The 32-year-old has been using the Redskins since 2014 and understands the offense better than another signal-callers about the roster, so don’t be surprised it Gruden chooses to proceed with McCoy out of the gate.
It is likely going to be a long year in D.C., which means Haskins probably will not be hurried into action. The Redskins appeared to receive a sneak by selecting Haskins with the No. 15 pick from the 2019 NFL Draft, but the former Ohio State standout struggled in his first preseason action. Haskins completed 8 of 14 passes for 117 yards in his debut against Cleveland but was intercepted twice.
Haskins is known for his powerful hands and poise under stress, and he has already seen as the quarterback of the future for your club. But with Keenum and McCoy from the fold, it makes more sense for Haskins to see from the sidelines for the first few weeks of this season. The Redskins may easily be from emptiness.
With tough games against the Eagles, Cowboys, Bears and Patriots in four out of their first five months, Haskins is better off to the seat. If Washington is from playoff contention shortly after, providing Haskins a shot later on could be the ideal plan of action.
